The first article that I read was about ArcHydro Groundwater. ArcHydro Groundwater is a toolbox for doing groundwater analysis in ArcGIS. There are three main components to AHGW. First there is Subsurface Analysis. For this component, one is able to bring in data such has borehole data into ArcGIS and then graphically display the borehole date. It can even be displayed in 3 dimensions in ArcViewer. This is helpful for visualizing stratiograpgy. This component of ArcGIS is free. The second component is MODFLOW Analysis. This component allows someone to run MODFLOW in ArcGIS. It allows the user to have a graphical interface to input information for MODFLOW. The last component is Groundwater Analysis which allows someone to manage groundwater data in ArcGIS. Allow this is a reletivily new product, it has been proven to be very powerful.

The second article was about a project in Colorado Springs to create a way to manage data for their utilities. This included putting in all of the parcel and utility information for the entire town into ArcGIS. Ultimately this allowed easily access and management to the city’s utility information. This helped CSU determine what it needed to do to update and maintain it sewer system. Overall, the engineers feel that ArcGIS has streamlined the process.
